Derksen, Cornelius L.

Halstead Independent

Cornelius L. Dereksen, 77, the father of LeRoy Derksen of Halstead, died October 5, 1991 at the Bethesda Home, Goessel. He was born May 6, 1914 at Mountain Lake, Minnesota, the son of John P. and Helen Bergman Derksen. On May 3, 1934 he married Lydia Pankratz in Mountain Lake.

They moved to Kansas in 1968 and had lived in Newton and the Goessel and Hesston areas until Mr. Derksen had to move to the Bethesda Home in March of 1988. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Hesston Inter-Mennonite Church.

Other survivors: wife of the home; another son, Lester Derksen, rural Newton; four daughters, Florence Allmond, Wichita; Vernelle Koehn, Hesston and Mildred Derksen and Jen Nixon, both of Grand Junction, Colorado; two brothers, Peter L. Derksen, California and Willard Derksen, Silver Springs, Md.; four sisters, Anna Pankratz and Katherine Derksen, both of Mountain Lake and Hilda Curry, San Diego, and Stella Derksen, Philadelphia; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Graveside service was held Wednesday morning at East Lawn Cemetery, near Hesston followed by a memorial service at the Inter-Mennonite Church, Hesston with Rev. Duane Yoder officiating.
