Edgington, David
David Edgington was born March 18, 1840, in Brown country, Ohio, and departed from this life at Sedgwick, Kansas, Jan 28 1931. He spent the early part of his life in Ohio and it ws from this state that he enlisted in the Union army. He was in company L, 2nd regiment, Ohio calvary and served until the end of the war. He was wounded in the battle of Petersburg and was taken as prisoner to Libby prison, where he remained six months. After being paroled from there he reinlisted.
He was one of the last charter members of the Bethel Presbyterian church in Ohio.
He came to Kansas, May 7, 1885 and has lived around Sedgwick since that time. The last two years he has lived with his two daughters, Mrs. Earl Adamson and Mrs. P.R. Fry. He is survived by seven children: Mrs. Alta Shannon of Hillsboro, Ohio, Charles Cary and Mrs. Earl Adamson of Sedgwick, Dan of Hays, KS, Mrs. Etta Bate of Hollister, MO, Mrs. P.R. Fry, La Junta, CO, founteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 at the First Methodist church in Sedgwick, with the Rev. Fry of Stafford, a former pastor, officiating. At the services Mrs. Leo Grattan of Newton sang two beautiful number accompanied by Mrs. George Osborn, Mrs. Grattan and Mrs. Osborn being warm friends of the family.
Six grandsons acted a casket bearers and two grandaughters acted as flower bearers. The large crowd in attendance and the many floral tributes were evidences of his many friends. He was placed at rest in the family lot in Pleasant Valley Cemetery with Duff and Son in charge.
