Obituary

Esther P. Schmidt, 85, a former Halstead resident, died April 29, 1992 at Mercy Hospital in Moundridge. Mrs. Schmidt was born January 1, 1907 at Beauscjour, Manitoba, Canada, the daughter of John K. and Maria Goossen Esau. On February 20, 1919, she married Abraham Schmidt at Hillsboro. They were residents of Halstead for 50 years before moving to Mouondridge. Mrs. Schmidt was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Grace Mennonite Church, rural Halstead, Kansas.

Survivors: her husband of the home; a son, Merle Schmidt, Monterey, Tennessee; four daughters, Betty Jane Friesen and Marjorie Mae Schmidt, both of Halstead; Joyce Katherine Toews, Grafton, North Dakota; and Mary Ann Buller, Dodge City; a brother, John Esau, Phoenix; three sisters, Marie Giesbrecht, Hillsbobo; Lydia Barkman, Newton and Lena Penner, Moundridge; 19 grandchildren and 33 great grand-children.

Services were held Saturday afternoon at the church, conducted by Ministers, Dean Becker and Kenneth Smith. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
