Carter, Delores L.

Halstead Independent

Delores Lee Carter, 63, Newton, died June 4, 1993 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was a sister of Josephiine Tate of Halstead. She was born January 19, 1930 at Cassville, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas and Serena Jane Frazier Powell. A Harvey County resident for most of her life, she had been employed at Phillips Industries, Newton and Elixer Industries, Hesston.

She was a member of Halstead Baptist Church, Halstead and the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary, both of Newton.

She married Sharmen E. Carter at ElDorado, Illinois on June 9, 1948. Other survivors besides her husband of the home are; three sons, Sharmen E. Carter, Gardener, Illinois; James L. Carter, Sioux City, Nebraska; and W. Dennis Carter, Newton; daughter, Mary Pickering, Topeka; four brothers, Lowell Jackson Powell, Emporia; Walter "Lucky" Powell, Louisville,; Kent and Ray Powell, Newton; three other sisters, Martha Fisher, Florence and Norma Hoag and Elsie Phillips, both of Emporia; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral service was Monday, June 7, with burial in the Burrton, Kansas cemetery.
