Obituary

Abraham "Abe" Schmidt, 87, died March 14, 1993 at Moundridge Manor, Moundridge.

He was born May 24, 19015 at Halstead, the son of J.A. R. and Katherine Johnson Schmidt. A lifetime resident of the Halstead arera, he was a retired farmer.

He married Esther P. Esau At Hillsboro on February 20, 1927. She preceded him in death on April 29, 1992.

Survivors include a son, Merle Ray Schmidt, Monterey, Tennessee; four daughters, Betty Jane Friesen and Marjorie Schmidt, both of Halstead, Joyce Toews, Pisek, North Dakota; and Mary Ann Buller, Dodge City; three brothers, Norman Schmidt, Ingalls, Melvin Schmidt, Richard Hill, Missouri; and Lewy J. Schmidt, Halstead; sisters, Katherine Buller, Bernitta Schmidt, Lorene Koehn and Osie Koehn, all of Halstead, Eva Jantz, Montezuma and Elma Jean Yost, Greensburg; 19 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.

Funeral was Wednesday, March 17, at Grace Mennonite Church with Dean Becker and Kenneth Smith presiding. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
