James B. Mahoney, 7, 69, Burrton, died Monday, October 31, 1994 at his home. He was born March 25, 1925 at Aquilla, Texas, the son of Walter James and Minnie Myrtle Terrell Mahoney. A Burrton resident for the past 25 years, he retired from Eaton in Hutchinson. In 1992 he began writing a weekly column for the Independent called "Jim's View" which he continued until two weeks before his death.
He was a member of the Burrton United Methodist Church and Burrton United Methodist Men; Halstead-Burrton VFW Post No. 1824; Emmett Neuway American Legion-Burrton; Hutchinson Moose Lodge; Lifetime Member of International Associations of Machinists and Aerospace Workers; AFL-CIO Lodge No. 1992; Burrton Chargers Booster Club and American Association of Retired Persons. He was also a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.
On February 14, 1948, he married Phyllis Smiley in California. On August 2, 1969, he married Irma J. Green in Wichita. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Robert E. Mahoney, Newton; daughter, Sue E. Page, Hutchinson; stepson, William J. Green, Wichita; stepdaughter, Joyce E. Downs, Burrton; two sisters, Mildred Hodson, Orville, California and Maxine Rogers, Fairfield, California, 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and 1 sister.
Memorial service will be Thursday, November 3 at Burrton United Methodist Church, Burrton. Following cremation, interment will be in the Burrton, Kansas Cemetery.
