Powell, William A.

Halstead Independent

William A. Powell, 48, Hutchinson, half-brother of Josephine Tate of Halstead, died Thursday, January 27, 1994, at Valley Station, Kentucky, as the result of a construction accident.

He was born July 25, 1945 at Elberfeld, Indiana and was the son of Thomas W. and Serena J. Frazier Powell. A Huthinson resident since 1989, moving from Harrisonville, Missouri, he was a carpenter for Borton, Inc., Hutchinson.

Survivors: wife, Sue Powell, Webb City, Missouri; daughter, Jeanette Powell, Kansas City, Missouri; four stepsons, Timothy Marvel, Galatia, Illinois; Hank Smith, Pittsburg; Bill Smith, Archie, Missouri and Steve Smith, Kansas City, Missouri; two stepdaughters, Theresa Marvel, Galantia, Illinois and Karen Bly, Joplin, Missouri; three brothers, Roy Powell, Hesston, Walter Powell, Booneville, Missouri and Jack Powell, Emporia; three sisters, Norma Hoag and Elsie Phillips, both of Emporia, and Martha Fisher, Florence; his companion, Jacquelin Smith, Hutchinson and 10 step-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday, February 1, at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead. Burial in Burrton Cemetery. Memorial to American Heart Association.
