Lucille Steiinkirchner, 97, Newtwon, former Halstead resident, died Wednesday, February 2, 1994 at Friendly Acres Retirement Community in Newton. She was born November 23, 1896 at Halstead, the daughter of Edwin J. and Susan M. Baxendale Bookwalter. A longtime Newton resident, she was retired from the news advertising department at the Newton Kansan. She also worked at Anderson Book Store and Hogan's Variety Store, both in Newton.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ladies of the Elk and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Newton.

Survivors: two sons, Arthur E. Steinkirchner, Marshall, Michigan and Kenneth K. Steinkirchner, Houston, Texas; daughter, LaDeen Ryan, Houston; 13 grandchidren and 18 great grandchildren.

Rosary was Friday February 4 at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, Newton. Graveside service was Saturday, February 5, in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Newton.
