Obituary

Leona Ellen Mayhill, 70, Newton, mother to Kathryn Elaiane Benbrook of Halstead, died Wednesday, January 25, 1995 at her Newton Home. She was born September 25, 1924 at Neosho Rapids, the daughter of Charles and Mary Charlotte Bills Daily. A longtime Newton resident, she worked for many years with the Girl Scouts of America and Boy Scouts of America. She was a member of First United Church of Christ, Newton.

On June 29, 1943, she married Max M. Mayhill at Wichita. He survives. Other survivors: two sons, James M. Mayhill, Redmond, Oregon and Terrance D. Mayhill, London, England; another daughter, Mary Ellen Merritt, Newton; brother, Charles L. Daily, Wichita; six sisters, Adeline Wood, Faye Jaggard and Joanne Fowler, all of Emporia; Mary June Clemmer, Tampa, Florida; Fern Gray, Topeka; and Dorla Kay Sharp, Wichita, 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral was January 30 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, Newton with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton. Memorial to Hospice.
