Phillips, Kathryn Jane

Kathryn Jane Phillips, 69, Newton, a graduate of Halstead School of Nursing, died Saturday, March 25, 1995 at Newton Medical Center, Newton.

Born February 17, 1926 at Newton, she was the daughter of Lloyd C. and Carrie Spangler Black. A lifetime Newton resident, she was a registered nurse, working at Axtell Hospital, Newton, for 15 years and at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, for 11 years, retiring in 1991.

She was a member and Sunday school teacher at First Christian Church, Beta Sigma Phi, and the Newton School Facilities Task Force, all at Newton; Halstead School of Nursing Alumni, Halstead; former leader in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts; and past BPW Woman of the year.

She married Lloyd C. Phillips at Newton on November 5, 1947. He died March 22, 1974.

Survivors: son, Steve Phillips, Topeka; daughter, Barbara Nunns, Hutchinson; two sisters, Virginia Drake, Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Yvonne Belle, Wichita; and 3 grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday, March 28, at First Christian Church, Newton with the Rev. Rollin Hole and Father Sean J. O'Shea presiding. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials established with American Cancer Society and the Church.
