Menno Simon Hege, who had been sick for many months, died shortly aafternoon Saturday, June 7. 1913 at his home surrounded by members of his family and the faithful attendants who had done all in their power to prolong his life.

He was born at West Point, Iowa, January 23, 1859 and died at his home in Halstead, aged 54 years, 4 months and 14 days. In his infanncy, his parents moved to Summerfield, Illinois where he grew to young manhood and at the age of 17, he united with the Mennonite Church of that place. ain April 1880, he came to Kansas with his widowed mother and established a home on the farm, seven miles north of Halstead.

On August 6, 1882, he was united in matrimony with Katie E. Baer at his former home in Illinois, and together they continued to live on the farm in Garden township until May 1, 1895. On the afternoon of that fateful day, their beautiful country home was destroyed by the tornado which left a trail of sorrow in this community, but inn the providence of God, this family was permitted to escape and from that time on, ,their residence had been iin the city of Halstead.

He was one of the organizers of the Mennonite Church in Garden township known as the "Middle Church" where his membership remained up to the time of his death.

The ceceased is survived by a sorrowing wife, three sons, Carl Frederick, Albert "Bert" and Daniel Christian and one daughter, Mildred Hege Sayler. Services were held at the Mennonite Church of Halstead with burial in the Halstead cemetery.
