Arrowsmith, Hilda (Kater)



North Newton - Hilda Arrowsmith, 92, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2010, at Kidron Bethel Healthcare in North Newton.
She was born on Dec. 27, 1917, in Whitewater, to William and Johanna (Yakel) Kater.
On Sept. 25, 1937, she married Ira Arrowsmith in Halstead, and he survives of the home. She was a homemaker. She worked during World War II foar the Santa Fe Railroad Laundry. She also worked at Berry's Hatchery and Randy's Steaks.
She was a lifelong active member of First United Church of Christ in Newton, and she volunteered at Bethel Home for the Aged. She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Midwestern Polka Club.
She enjoyed quilting, crafts and crocheting, and shared her creations with her loving family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Ira, of the home; daughter, Karen and Robert Hummel of Davenport, Iowa; grandsons, Glen Hummel and his wife and their childrenEmily, Luke and Nathan of Davenport, and Ross Hummel and his wife Michelle and their children Soren and Emerson of San Francisco; sister-in-law, Pearl Kater of Sedgwick; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and three brothers.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Church of Christ in Newton, with Rev. Jerry Scribner presiding.
Memorials may be left with First United Church of Christ in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
