Jeffrey J. Cox, 40, died February 20, 1996 at St. Vincent's Hospital, New York, N.Y. He was born March 16, 1955 at Halstead, the son of Leland and Jeanne Cox. He received his bachelors degree in arts and business administration from Benedictine College, Atchison, Kansas in 1977. He received his masters degree in arts administration from New York University, New York, in 1979.
He was the director of the ceramics program at 92nd Street Y in New York City for 11 years, coordinating ceramics and pottery lectures, workshops and classes. He also gave workshops for numerous organizations, includiing Peter's Valley Westchester Community College and Rockland Center for the Arts. He was the president of the board of the Empire State Craft Alliance, an organizaation that provides support services and programs to emerging craft artists.
In 1993, he displayed his work at the Philadlophia Museum Craft Show and in 1991, he was a winner in the International Workshop Competition of Ceramic Arts in Tokoname, Japan. His work is on display at the American Craft Museum, Monica Knowles Gallery and Fellisimo in New York City and across the county iin the Kubiak Gallery, Common Ground, Catskill Offerings and Pewabic Pottery.
Survivors: his mother, Jeanne Patterson, Wichita; and Tuscon, Arizona; sister, Carol Hensley, Tuscon; two brothers, Steven Cox, St. Charles, Missouri and Craig Cox, Halstead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a Memorial Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Halstead, Friday, March 1.
