Ora Grattan, 97, Newton, formerly of Sedgwick, died Thursday, December 26, 1996 at Newton Presbyterian Manor, Newton. She was born September 7, 1899 at Sedgwick, the daughter of Oscar and Charlotte Carnahan Adamson. A longtime resident of Newton, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church nd St. Mary's Altar Society, Newton; charter member and first regent of Daughters of Isabella at St. Mary's Chirch (1928); received papal honors (Benemerenti Medal) in 1960 for service to the church and community; was Newton's Woman of the Year in Religion in 1961; was former president of the Newton Deanery of National Council of Catholic Women; vice president of the Wichita Diocese Council of NCCW; active in Girl Scouts, PTA; and Harvey County Anti-tuberculosis Association; sang with St. Mary's Choir; former organist for St. Mary's and early member and past president of the Trebel Clef Club.
On September 13, 1921, she married Leo Thomas Grattan in Newton. He died March 5, 1991. survivors: include two daughters, Ann Panlener, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Jane Theis, Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin; 7 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren and 6 great grandchidren.
Rosary was Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton. Funeral Mass was Thursday, January 2 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newton. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, Newton, Kansas
