Haury, Walter G.

Dr. Walter G. Haury, 78, Newton, died Sunday, March 31, 1996 at his home in Newton. He was born August 21, 1917 at Newton, the son of Arthur Otto and Hermina Kraft Haury. He graduated from Newton High School in 1936 and Bethel College in 1940, teaching at Gore Consolidated Oklahoma and Ness City. He graduated from Northwestern University Dental School in 1949 and practiced denistry from June 1949 until retirement in August 1982.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and an elder; member of Rotary Club and recent recipient of Paul Harris Fellow Award; member of Elks Club; American Legion; Fox Ridge Golf Club; Harvey County Dental Society, all of Newton; American Dental Association; G. V. Black Society of Northwestern Univeristy Dental School of Chicago, Illinois and served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for three years during World War II.
On June 9, 1946, he married Evelyn Faye Gram at Halsted. She survives. Other survivors: three sons, Douglas Kent Haury, Newton; Lawrence Edward Haury, ElDorado, and Ronald Scott Haury, Hutchinson; two daughters, Deborah Kay Bertram, Lee's Summit, Missouri; and Beverly Ann McGee, Newton; and 10 grandchildren.
Memorial service was 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Presbyterian Church, Newton with the Rev. James W. Anderson presiding. Private family burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.
