Esau, Regina Ruth

Harvey County Independent

Regina Ruth Esau, 92, Newton, died Friiday, November 14, 1997 at Presbyterian Manor in Newton. She was born October 22, 1905 at Larned, Kansas, the daughter of Gabriel Emanuel and Beulah May Erdman Starr. She was a teacher for 46 years teaching first grade in Sedgwick, Kansas during the 1930's.

She was a member of the Harvey County Retired Teachers Association. She belonged to the state and national retired teachers associations and the National Education Association. She served as vice president, president, treasurer and reporter for Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a volunteer for Red Cross, the Bethel Deaconess Hosital gift shop and Apple A Day Preschool at Presbyterian Manor, where she was a resident. Her hobbies included traveling, flowers and handiwork.

On June 21, 1966, she married Herman Esau in Newton He died in 1980. Survivors: two sisters, Velma Jean English and Willa Noreen Stratton, both of Newtoon; one stepson, Norma D. Esau, North Fort Myers, Florida; one nephew, Vere English, Newton; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Erdman Quentin Esau and Solon Lee Starr.

Graveside services were held in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton November 18 with the Rev. David Keazirian of St. Luke Presbyterian Church and the Rev. Charles Kaufman of Golden Plains Free Methodist Church, rural Newton.
