Obituary

Lucy M. Gatz, 93, mother of Bernard C. Gatz, Halstead, died June 15, 1997 at Andover. She was born December 28, 1903 at Union City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Frank D. and Annie M. Bixby. She was a graduate of Hills Business College. A Newton resident, she was a homemaker and land owner.

On November 10, 1926, she married William H. Gatz at Union City, Oklahoma. He died June 6, 1948.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Altar Society, was St. Mary's School PTA President in 1946, all of Newton; a member of the Harvey County Grange; Extension Homemakers Unit; Pansy Club and a 4-H club leader.

Survivors: two other sons: Vincent E. Gatz and William F. Gatz, both of Newton; three daughters, Mareta L. Lies, Kansas City; Teresa M. Sawyer, Houston and Margaret E. Unruh, Andover; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Rosary will be June 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newton. Funeral Mass will be Friday at the Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Newton.
