Howard, Florence Inez

Harvey County Independent

Florence Inez Howard, 91, Hutchinson, formerly of Burrton, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997 at Hutchinson Hospital. She was born September 17, 1905 the daughter of Charles F. and Ida E. Anderson Howard. She was a 1923 grtaduate of Burrton High School, attended Kansas State University, and earned her Bachelor and Masters degrees from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. She was a teacher and counselor and prior to 1943 taught school in Ohio and Washington, D.C. A Hutchinson resident since 1970, she also lived in St. Louis, Missouri.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson; Daughters of American Revolution and the Kansas Society of Mayflower Descendents Civic Center. She was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II. She also served as a lieutenant iin the U.S. Naval Reserve for 10 years.

Survivors: one niece, Beverly Dillman, Emporia; three nephews, Marvin Howard, Hutchinson; Lewis Howard, Santa Fe, New Mexico and Warren Howard, Burrtonville, Maryland and 22 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brohers, Raeburn Howard and Charles Howard; two sisters, Lilliian Frederick and Irene Wickline; two nephews and one niece.

Services will be Fridiay, May 23 at Johnson and Sons Memorial Chapel, Hutchinson.

Burial will be in the Burrton Cemetery.
