Obituary

Clarence C. Johnson, 93, Halstead, died Wednesday, Aril 9, 1997 at Moundridge Manor, Moundridge, Kansas. He was born March 25, 1904 at Halstead, the son of Jacob C. and Susie Joohnson. A longtime resident of Halstead, moving to Moundridge Manor in 1991, he was a retired sign painter with many of his signs still prominent in Halstead. He also re-created the Halstead Independent flag and nameplate that still marks the Halstead section of the Independent using the first Halstead Independent as his model for the Old English lettering.

He was a member of Grace Mennonite Church, Halstead.

Survivors: brother, Curtis Johnson, Halstead.

Funeral was Friday, April 11 at Grace Mennonite Church, Halstead. Burial was in the Halstead Cemeteery.
