Obituary

Richard L. "Dick" Kern, 55, Newton, father to Audra Davis of Bentley, died Thursday, March 27, 1997 at Newton Medical Center. He was born November 24, 1941 in Herington, the son of Guy and Hazel Eggman Kern. A longtime area resident, he was the used car sales manager at Resnik Motors in Newton. In 1959 he graduated from Herington High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. Before coming to Resnik Motors in 1991, he served as a sales manager at Washburn Motors from 1969 to 1973 and as a salesman, used car manager and assistant sales manager at Holstine Motors from 1973 to 1985. In 1996, he received the highest award for sales consultants from the Chrysler Corporation.He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Herington and Attended Salem United Methodist Church in Newton. On September 20. 1964, he married Sheila Garver in Herington. she survives. Other survivors include his mother; son, Aaron Kern, Wichita; another daughter, Shana Hosford, Newton; three brothers, Larry Kern, Plevna; James Kern, Edmond, Oklahoma and Kenneth Kern, Eureka. Funeral was Monday March 31 at Salem United Methodist Church in Newton. burial was in Restlawn Gardens of Memory, rural Newton.
