Obituary

Robert L. "Bobby" Porter, 49, Halstead, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997 at his residence. He was born February 27, 1948 in Stockton, California, the son of Teddy Porter and Ruth E. Adams Porter. A Halstead resident since 1974, he was a laborer.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 231 Halstead, and the Disabled American Veterans, Wichita. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam.

On May 14, 1987, he married Roberta "Bert" M. Wheeler in Newton. She survives. Other survivors: son, Robert Porter, Jr., ElPaso, Texas; daughter, Georgina Wheeler, Halstead, step-daughter, Tracie Roeder, Newton; his father, Halstead, brothers, Donald Porter, Halstead; Steven Porter, Burrton; Ronnie Porter, Mt. Hope; sisters, Shirley Drake, Newton and Sylvia "Suzie" Reed, Halstead; half-sister, Mona Hurlbert, Andover; four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, who died March 3, 1986, a brother Edddie Porter and a son, Jimmy Porter.

Graveside service will be Thursday, May 29, in Halstead Cemetery, with the Rev. Dallas E. Curts presiding.
