Goossen, Henry W.

Henry W. Goossen of North newton died unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009 at the age of 93. He was born on Aug. 11, 1916, on a farm near DeWitt, Neb. He spent his formative years near DeWitt, graduated from Beatrice High School in Nebraska and worked for his uncle before going on to graduate from Bethel College in North Newton and the Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Chicago. He marreid Edna Marie Ensz on Aug. 19, 1943. Henry was a Mennoite pastor in Burns, Hanston, McPherson, Hillsboro, Goessel and Halstead. He and his wife spent 1966 to 1968 serving in SouthKorea with Mennonite Central Committe. In 1983, following retirement from the ministry, he joined his son for 12 years in Goossen Cinstruction Inc. he enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading and playing Rook. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Edna; two daughters, Sharon(Bob) Bartel of McPherson and LaVonne(Ron) Sawatzky of elkhart, Ind,; a son Duane(Rachel) Goossen of Topeka; grandchildren, Shaun(Deb) Bartel, Sheri(Alan) Lepard, Shannon Bartel, Sheldon(Spring) Bartel, Ben Goossen and Elsa Goossen; five great-grandchildren, Sarah and Megan Bartel, Nicholas and Markus Lepard, and Haylen Bartel; and a brother William(Marilyn) goossen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andre P. and Helen(Penner) Goossen; a sister,Getrude Wiebe; and a brother Theodor Goossen. Memorial service was Wednesday at Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton. Burial at Halstead Cemetery, Memorial gifts are suggested to Mennonite Central Committee, Bethel College or Bethel College Mennonite Church.
