Obituary

William Kent (Bill) Mayfield, 68, died May 2, 2009. He was born July 6, 1940, in Harvey County, the youngest child of Archie and Lydia Mayfield. He graduated from Halstead High School in 1958 and was a technician for IBM and NCR and also did custom harvesting. Bill married AvNell Ballard in 1960. In 1978 he married Ruth Haury Pownell. He is survived by sons Brandon and Mona Mayfield Beaverton, Ore.; Kent and Tonya Mayfield, Hutchinson; Dand and Indri Mayfield, Wichita, and Andrew and Christina Mayfield, Tomball, Texas; daughter, amy Sikes, Moundridge; brother Alfred, Ponca City, Okla., and sisters Beth Vannatta and Katherine Mayfield, both of Halstead. there are eight grandchildren, Shane, Sharia, Samir, Samaya, Zoe, Loghan and Levi Mayfield and Donovan Sikes. He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest son, Michael. Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 7, at 11 a.m. at the Halstead Cemetery.
