Cowan, age 92, 212 Alice, farmer/stockman retiring in 1973, died Monday (November 3, 1997) at Peabody Community Living Center in Peabody, KS. He was born August 11, 1905, in Harvey County to Andrew and Bessie Spaulding Cowan. He married Blanche Montgomery June 1, 1930, in Newton. She survives of Newton. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newton. Other survivors include: one son, Bruce Cowan of Newton; two daughters, Alice Stahl of Newton and Lois Markley of Howard, KS; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister Bessie Bunting; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 AM Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Keating of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory in rural Newton. Friends may call until 9 PM today at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
