Obituary

Martha M. Wedel, 88, North Newton, formerly of Halstead, died Saturday, July 26, 1997 at Newton Medical Center. She was born April 13, 1909 at Canton, the daughter of Peter P. and Anna Reimer Quiring. She earned her teachers certificate at Bethel College in North Newton and taught for five years in the Goessel area. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton.

On August 5, 1936, she married David C. Wedel in Goessel. He survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Eleanor Heckendorn, Phoenix, Arizona and Judith Arthur, Russell; brother, Otto Quiring, Newton; four sisters, Edna Schmidt and Ruth Boese, both of North Newton; Bertha Friesen, Newton and Hilda Ratzlaff, Goessel; six grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.

Graveside service was Tuesday, July 29, in Restlawn Gardens of Memory with Pastors Darrell Fast and Richard Early presiding. Memorial service followed at 11 a.m. in the Bethel College Mennonite Church, North Newton.
