Obituary

Robert A. Wherrell, 61, Newton, stepfather to Elton Koehn of Bentley, died Saturday, December 27, 1997 at Newton Medical Center. He was born May 26, 1936 at Newton, the son of John W. and Alvena Schulte Wherrell. He worked for the Newton City Street Department for ten years prior to retiring.

He belonged to Salem United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Eagles and the American Legion, all at Newton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict and served in the Kansas National Guard until October 1996.

On December 31, 1994, he married Carol McIver at Las Vegas. She survives. Other survivors: four sons, Joshua Logan Moran, Newton; Wesley Richard Wherrell and Douglas Bradley Sherrell, both of Topeka and Melvin Edward Sherrell, Norfolk, Virginia; two other stepsones, Scott Moran, Nevada, Missouri and Tony Koehn, Hutchinson; five stepdaughters, Shanyn Guerra and Danella Schmidt, both of Newton; Vanessa Gilbert, Wichita; Delores Koehn, Lyons, and Jolene Irsik, Arlington; brother, Lloyd Sherrell, Newton; three sisters, Delores Sartain and Rose Lindsey, both of Newton and Catherine Schmidt, Wichita; 26 grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.'

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wilbur Wherrell.

Funeral was Tuesday, December 30 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton with Pastor David Keazirian presiding. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, Kansas.
