Obituary

Melvin L. Edwards, 96, Burrton, died Friday, April 17, 1998 at Buhler Sunshine Home, Buhler. He was born October 11, 1901 at Sterling, the son of Melvin L. and Flora Bea Lloyd Edwards. He graduated from Sterling High School and Salt City Busisness College at Hutchinson. A Burrton resident since 1932, moving to Buhler in 1995, he was the owner of Edwards IGA Grocery at Burrton for 32 years.

He belonged to the United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 182 AF & AM and the Lions Club, all of Burrton.

On February 18, 1922, he married Ida Faye Cavin at Sterling. She died February 16, 1995.

Survivors: three sons; M. Lloyd Edwards, Emporia; Donald L. Edwards, Wichita and M. Joe Edwards, San Diego, California; four daughters, Helen Stubby, Reta Grandon and Pat Bryant all of Burrton and Reva Hern, Topeka; 20 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and 11 brothers and sisters.

Funeral was at the United Methodist Church, Burrton with the Rev. Roland Wolfe presiding. Burial was in the Burrton Cemetery.
