Obituary

DIED. Near burrton, Harvey County, Kansas, at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 29, 1882, of a complication of different diseases. Mrs. Betsey Vose was in her 64th year. Mrs. Vose was born Oct. 8, 1819 in Grafton, Vermont. She was well connected in her family relations, being a cousin of the distinguished statesman, Daniel Webster. Being connected with an intellectual family her mind was well trained and stored with useful knowledge in early life and she became a woman of high and refined culture. She applied herself to the work of instructing others for which she was so well qualified and was a successful teacher in the state of New Hampshire. Jan. 18, 1843 she was married in Worcester, Mass. to Mr. Isaac Vose, who still survives her. In 1854, accompaning her husband, she moved to Kalamazoo Michigan, where she resided for a period of 20 years. In 1874 with her husband she removed to Kansas and settled in Reno County, three miles west of Burrton where she resided till her death. She was highly respected by all who knew her and those who knew her best esteemed and loved her most. She had many warm personal friends who deeply feel her loss and she will be sorely missed by the community and the Church. She was the mother of seven children, six of whom still live to mourn their irreparable loss. Three of her daughters live in Michigan. One son and two daughters were with her during her last sickness and were almost constantly at her bed side and uniting in their efforts to administer to the comfort of their mother and had everything done that could be done for her recovery. She was a worthy member of the Burrton Baptist Church and died in hope of a blissful immortality. Her health had been gradually failing for several months, she still lingered several weeks after she took her bed but was a patient sufferer and finally passed quietly and peacefully away. She sleeps in Jesus. We shall meet her in the morning! The funeral services were conducted in Burrton at the Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Oct. 31, 1882. The services were conducted by Rev. Hungate, pastor of the Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. d. Kingery. The sermon was preached by Rev. Hungate from Rev. 14:13. A large and select choir furnished most excellent music for the occsion.
