Obituary

Velma E. Jones, 77, Newton, mother to Thomas E. Jones of Halstead, died Sunday, October 3, 1999 at HCA Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born July 27, 1922 at Iuka, Mississippi, the daughter of Murray B. and Lithia E. West Moore. A resident of Newton since 1962, she was a homemaker. She attended Halstead Baptist Church.

In 1939, she married William Lee Jones in Tippah County, Mississippi.

Survivors: two other sons, Lee T. J ones, Oxford and Stanley Jones, Newton; two daughters, Helen Cagle and Brenda Schultz, both of Newton; four wsisters, Christine Murray, Athens, Alabama; Josephine Dunn, Marked Tree, Arkansas; Bobbie Chenowith, Oxford; and Maxine Courtney, Lepanto, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grand children.

Funeral was October 7 at Halstead Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Ericksten presiding. Kaufman Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
