Klassen, Wilma

Harvey County Independent

Wilma Klassen, 90, Greensburg, former Halstead areaa resident, died Thursday, May 20, 1999 at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. She was born December 4, 1908 at Hillsboro, the daughter of Henry A. and Matilda Bartel Schmidt. She was a cook at Bethel Home and Ramada Inn. She attended Hilllsboro Academy. She moved to Walton in 1950 from a farm northeast of Halstead and she lived in Newton from 1980 until moving to Greensburg in 1996.

She was a member of Walton Mennonite Church and Kiowa County Senior Center in Greensburg.

On September 10, 1933, she married Menno H. Klassen. He died April 29, 1977.

Survivors: one son, Orrie D. Klassen, Brighton, Colorado; one daughter, Joleen Seacat, Greensburg; one sister, Ruby Hefley, Hillsboro; six grandchildren and seven great-grand children. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Schmidt and Orval Schmidt; one sister, LaVerna Schmidt and two granddaughters.

Funeral was Saturday, May 22 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton with the Rev. Floyd Zuercher presiding. Burial was in Restlawn Gardens of Memory, Newton.
