Schimnowitz, Jacob
The Halstead Independent
George Merritt, while out hunting on the 23rd last, saw a hawk alight in a large tree in the ravine on the north side of the river in Swartley's grove, near the city, and endeavoring to get a shot at the bird came near running against a man hanging from a limb of a tree, dead. The body proved to be that of Jacob Schimnowitz, a German. No cause has been assigned for the deed. He had just recently come from Germany and seemed to be getting along comfortably, having just lately purchased the home where he and his wife were living.
The Halstead Independent. Quoted in The Burrton Monitor, Friday 07 November 1884. Page 1.
