Pepper, Erma V.

Harvey County Independent

Erma V. Pepper, 95, formerly of Halstead, died Monday, November 8, 1999 at Larksfield Place in Wichita. She was born April 12, 1904 at Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Alice Ruby Woods Ottoway. Before moving to Larksfield Place in Wichita, she had been a long time resident of Newton and Halstead.

Shw was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newton; St. Mary's Altar Society; Daughters of Union Veterans; LaVella Reading Club; American Legion Auxiliary; and the Forty & Eight of the American Legion Auxiliary.

On October 25, 1904 she married Grover C. Pepper at Kansas City, Missouri. He died February 6, 1962.

Survivors: two sons, James Pepper, Wichita and Tom Pepper, Tulsa, Oklahoma; four daughters, Joan Carter and Judith Pepper, both of Wichita; Janet Fields, White Plains, New York and Carol Atkins, Chesapeake, Virginia; half sister, Irene R. Saunders, Nellore, India; four half-brothers, Donald Ottaway; Harold Ottaway and Herbert Ottaway, all of Wichita; and Lester Ottaway, Kansas City, Missouri; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Joyce Snead.

Funeral was Saturday, November 13 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newton with the Rev. Ken Shuckman presiding. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
