Obituary

Charles Pokorny, M.D., Houston, Texas, formerly of Halstead, died Sunday, July 4, 1999 at his home. He was born September 24, 1908 at LaCrosse. He received his medical degree from St. Louis University and practiced in several small Midwest towns during the depression before going to California in the 1940's. He ultimately became a physician for the U.S. Army and served at the Hollywood Studios. Following the war, he continued to practice pulmonary medicine at the Hertzler Clinic in Halstead. Following his retirement, he moved to Sun City, Arizona and then in 1992, moved to Houston.

He married Lois Miller, who died in 1966 after 61 years of marriage. Survivors: son, Charles Pokorny III of Michigan; daughter-in-law, Dr. Susan Pokorny, Houston; brother, Dr. Richard Pokorny of Washington; five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a son, Dr. William Jon Pokorny.

Memorial Services were Saturday July 17 at First Presbyterian Church of Houston with the Rev. Asa Hunt presiding.
