Charles Edward “Chuck” Spencer, 65, of Newton, died on Thursday (Dec. 1, 2011) at his home.
He was born on Nov. 23, 1946, in Wichita, the son of Myron Ted and Martha Kannapel Spencer, and was a lifelong resident of Newton. Chuck and his brother, David, owned and operated Spencer’s House in Newton for several years. Chuck worked for almost 40 years at what was Cunningham Clothing which later became Cunningham’s by Legee. Recently, Chuck has been the maintenance man for the Chisholm Trail Outlet Mall of Newton. He was a member of the Circle 8 Square and Round Dance Club.
Survivors include his niece, Carrie Goebel; great-niece, Brandi Beasley of Newton; his longtime companion, Twyla Kovac of the home and her children, Kayln, Kathryn and Paul Kovac. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David; and his twin sister, Catherine Ann (Cathy) Schmidt.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, where the family will receive friends between 6 and 9 p.m. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8 at the community room of the Chisholm Trail Outlet Mall.
A memorial has been established with the Circle 8 Square and Round Dance Club or Newton Meals On Wheels, and contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114. Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home of Newton.
