Lowell L. “Biss” Biesterfeld, 86, of Newton, died on Sunday (Dec. 4, 2011) at the Robert J. Dole Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born on Nov. 7, 1925, in Newton, the son of George A. and Katherine Hill Biesterfeld. Lowell attended Newton schools. He joined the Merchant Marines and later served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Lowell enjoyed watching sports and was an avid K.U. basketball fan.

Survivors include his sister, Bernadine Whitmire of Newton. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vernon E. and Orren; and sister, Georgina Neuhauser.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6. Private family graveside services will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. A memorial has been established with Caring Hands Humane Society, and contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114. Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home of Newton.
