George Everett Morford, 73, of 520 E. 12th died Saturday evening in a Topeka hospital after an extended illness.

Mr. Morford was born Oct. 11, 1888 in Hoyt, Kansas, the son of George M. and Nancy Morford. He had lived in Newton since 1923, coming here from La Junta, Colorado.

He was employed by the Santa Fe Railway for 44 years as a car lighting and air conditioning inspector before retiring in 1954.

Mr. Morford was married May 2, 1914 to Hazel M. Jolley in Topeka.

He was a member of the 1st Christian Church and Newton Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his widow, survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Roumel Brown of Saeke, Japan; three sons, George E. and Weldon D. of EauGallie, Fla., and Galen E. of Newton; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Johnson of Pasadena, Calif. and 13 grandchildren.

Services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Moody-Petersen Funeral Home. The Rev. Monroe M. Miles, pastor of the 1st. Christian Church officiating and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
