John Lee Gonzalez

John L. Gonzalez, 85 , died Friday, April 29, 2011 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. He was born July 20. 1925 at Valley Center, Kansas to Eleodoro and Herlinda (Castillo) Gonzaalez. A Hillsboro resident since 2006, he had been a lifetime resident of Halstead and Newton.

He was a registered nurse and retired car salesman. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a Pharmacist's Mate Third Class.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Ruth-Wilson American Legion Post 231, Halstead.

On June 19, 19147 he married Mary Cleo Martinez at Raton, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2009.

Survivors: sons: Chester (Irma) Gonzalez, Newton: Jon Gonzalez Jr., Wichita; Robert (Monique) Gonzalez, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Frank (Cindy) Gonzalez, San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Rebecca (Kyle) Low, Wichita; brothers; Roman (Catherine) Gonzalez, Walton; Fred Gonzalez, Newton; sister, Jenny Sanchez, Derby; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded by a brother, Manuel and sister, Margaret Gonzalez.

Rosary was May 1 at the Church. Mass of the Chritian Burial was Monday, May 2 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Steve Baxter presiding. Burial in Halstead Cemetery.
