McMurry, Mary Louise

Harvey County Independent

Mary Louise McMurry, 80, died Tuesday in rural Burrton, at her home. She was born March 27, 1931 in rural Cheney, the daughter of James L. and Rosa Nicklaus Weve. On June 12, 1949, she married Richard L. McMurry in Patterson.

The McMurrys were longtime residents of the Mt. Hope and Burrton area and were members of the Federated Church of Mt. Hope. While farming, the McMurrys owned and operated Mac's Derby and Cafe of Mt. Hope. She also retired after many years as a food service supervisor at Halstead Hospital and Mt. Hope Nursing Center. After retirement, they served as camp hosts at Cheney Park and Reservoir. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and one sister. Survivors: sister, Leah Akred and husband, Robert of Mt. Hope and brother, Fritz Weve and wife Diane of Burrton. Other survivors: sons, Richard Jr. and wife Pam of Mt. Hope; James and wife, Nancy of Anthony; Bill and wife Candy of Burrton; Ed and wife Abby of Halstead; daughter, Rosemary Vaughn and husband Steve, of Halstead; 14 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren.

Services were Friday with the Rev. Jane Siebert at Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Mr. Hope. Burial was in Star Cemetery, rural Burrton.
