Mills, Elizabeth

Halstead Independent

Mrs. H. L. (Elizabeth) Mills, died Saturday afternoon, December 14, 1918 at the family home north of the river in Halstead, after having been a sufferer with that dreaded disease, tuberculosis for the past two years. She had in the past few months been very close to death's door but would rally for a time and be able to be about the home. For the past two months shd been confined to her bed almost constantly and on several occasions she mentioned that the end could not long be postponed.

Mrs. Mills was born in Gibson county, Indiana on June 8, 1904. The family moved to Halstead in the summer of 1909 and with the exception of a few months spent in Burrton, had made our city the family home.

The deceased was a member of the Methodist Church and a faithful attendant whenever the state of her health would permit. She was essentially a home loving woman, being devoted to care of her young children who will greatly miss their mother's tender care and affection.

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge whose members ministered to her welfare and comfort through many sleepless nights during the last illness.

She is survived by the husbnd and four children: Kenneth, Mildred, Marie and Paul, the latter being but two and a half years of age. There are also four step-children raised under her tender care who had loved her as their own mother and who are deeply grieved over the break in the family circle. These children are: Mrs. Edith Lucas, Keefer, Oklahoma; Roy Mills, also of Keefer, Oklahoma; Mrs. Agnes Mills Cline of Alsuma, Oklahoma and Raymond Mills, still in the army service in Texas.

All were present at the funeral except Mrs. Lucas who was detained at home by illness of her children.

Services were held at the Methodist Church on Tuesday Afternoon with Rev. W. B. Robertson. Interment was in the Halstead Cemetery.
