Haiber, Kathryn Knox
Halstead Independent
Kathryn Knox Haiber was born January 3, 1880 on a farm 4 1/2 miles southwest of Halstead and departed this life at Edinburg, Texas on February 26, 1941, age 61 years, 1 month and 23 days. She was the daughter of James D. and Barbara Knox. A brother, John and her parents preceded her in death.
Katherine Knox Haiber grew up in the Halstead vicinity and had many friends here. She and Mr. Haiber had been in the south since November 6, as her health had not been good. They had their own trailer house with them, and were planning to start home Wednesday, but because of the rain down there had postponed their leaving until Thursday.
At the age of 23, she was united in mariage to Fred Haiber and to this union was born a son, Beryl, who with his father is left to mourn her passing. An aunt, Mrs. Anna Patterson of Eureka, Kansas also survives.
Mrs. Haiber, while never affiliated with any particular church, lived a truly Christian life, and was a faithful and devoted wife, mother, passing her time in doing good and always remembering those in need. She was a great lover of flowers, and received untold enjoyment in giving them to those whom she felt would derive pleasure from them.
She had no particular hobby - hers was a busy life and a charitable one; and those whom she has left will miss her keenly; yet, while missing her, the friends she has made while traveling the road of life will feel the better for having known her and will continue to bask in the warm afterglow of a friendship which still lives on another shore.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, March 2, in the McCarthy and Dreese chapel. Rev. T. R. Mordy preached the funeral sermon. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
