Obituary

Pearl Kater, 93, Died December 25, 2011 at Sedgwick Healthcare Center in Sedgwick. She was born December 12, 1918 in rural Sedgwick to George W. and Ellen Stein Stamm. She attended Diamond country school for two years and in 1928 she and her family moved into Sedgwick where she attended grade school and graduated from Sedgwick High School.

She was an active member of the Sedgwick United Methodist Church and over the years was a choir member and participated in many quartets; she also held offices in the church and was a member of the woman's society and church circles. She was awarded a special membership from the church, which she was proud of. Ahs was also an active member of the Sedgwick Senior Center, in Sedgwick Go Club where she received a certificate of recognition for 29 years working on the election board. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and enjoyed being a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was a cancer survivor.

On December 14, 1937, she married Henry Kater in Newton. In their retirement years, she and Henry spent their winters in Texas, where Henry preceded her in death on January 26, 1981 in Edinburg, Texas. They were married 48 years and blessed with one daughter, Judy Gutzmer and son in law, Rodger, of Sedgwick.

In addition to her daughter and son in law, she is survived by four grandchildren, Todd and Stephanie Bechtel of Overland Park; Darla and Bruce Pearcy of Augusta; Kim and Pat Hubbell of Lawrence and Kelli and Keith Potter of Olathe and eight great grandchidren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Lester, Melvin and Willis Stamm and one sister, Violet Stocks.

Services were held Thursday, December 20 at the Sedgwick United Methodist Church with the Reverend Paul Stephens presiding. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery.
