Flickinger, Jake

Jake Flickinger, 68, Newton, former rural Burrton resident, died May 19, 2000 at his home. He was born June 16, 1931 at Burrton, son of Jacob and Ella Ruth Schwartz Flickinger. He was a tooling engineer for Beech and Raytheon, both at Wichita, retiring in 1998.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Newton and their bus driver. He was a former Boy Scout leader with Troop No. 111 and No. 124, he also had a Girl Scout troop at Selma, Alabama. He was an adult traainer, camp ranger and camp director.
On August 5, 1951, he married Joyce Davis at Tyro. She survives. Other survivors: son, Jake Flickinger, Dallas, Gexas; four daughters, Jonnie Smith and Jessie Lafoe, both of Newton, Janet Moore, Denver, Colorado and Jeanne Herrman, Peabody; mother, rural Burrton; three brothers, Larry Flickinger and David Flickinger, both of Burrton and Ronnie Flickinger, Newton; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grand children.
He was preceded in death by his father, an infant daughter, Delores Flickinger; sister, Selma Dalke and two brothers, Gene Flickinger and John Flickinger.
Services were held Tuesday, May 23 at the Church with Pastor Mike Keating. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
