Bertha B (Koehn) Smith

Bertha B. Smith, 80, formerly of Halstead, died Saturday, January 29, 2000 at Moundridge Manor. She was born February 25, 1919 at Fairview, Oklahoma, the daughter of Edward B. and Ida B. Kahn Koehn. She lived in Isabella, Oklahoma; Cucushtemor, Chihauahu, Mexico; Camp and Gattillo, Coahuila, Mexico; Galva; Moundridge; Halstead; Burns and Newton before moving back to Moundridge. She helped mothers with their newborn babies and worked as a cook at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton for 20 years.

On November 30., 1952, she married Ike Smith at Galva. He died August 21, 1979. Survivors: two stepsons, Jake Smith, Walnut Hill, Florida and Ellis Smith, Burns; brother, Henry Koehn, Okolona, Mississippi; seven sisters, Pauline Jantzen, Glenn, California; Esther Unruh and Hanna Koehn, Moundridge; Sadie Braun, Livingston, Geogia; Maggie Base, Huma, Missouri; Marie Penner, Isabella, Oklahoma and Eva Smith, Nevada; 8 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Koehn.

Services was Wednesday, February 2 at Grace Mennonite Church, Halstead. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
