Obituary

Homer D. Smith, rural Halstead, died Sunday, November 26, 2000 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born March 22, 1939 at Neodesha, Kansas, son of Henry R. and Eva Otilga Becker Smith. He was a retired Standard Oil bulk agent.

He married Hope LaFonn Schmidt on April 21, 1963 at Rich Hill, Missouri. They moved to Halstead in 1964 from Newton. He was a member of the Grace Mennonite Church, Halstead.

Survivors: Wife, Hope, three sons, Rodney Smith, Troy Smith and Jason Smith, Halstead; two daughters, Melanie Koehn and Tricia Holdeman, Halstead; two brothers, Marvin Smith, Chickasha, Oklahoma and John Smith, Burns; five sisters, Betty Schmidt, Burns; Viola Koehn, Walker, Missouri; Irene Smith, Escondido, California; Velma Koehn and Vivian Swarey, Almena, Wisconsin; stepmother, Etheleen Smith, Moundridge; step-brother, Darrell Ratlaff, Wilcox, Arizona and step-sister, Deloris Koehn, Paris, Texas; 9 grandchildren and 2 special foster grandchildren.

Services were Thursday, November 30 at Grace Mennonite Church, rural Halstead. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
