Obituary

Howard Roy Smith, 92, Hesston, former Halstead area resident, died Friday, January 7, 2000 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. He was born July 21, 1907 at rural Hesston, son of Homer M. and Lura E. Haines Smith. He was a lifelong area resident moving to Schowalter Villa in 1983. He was a farmer and former Harvey County Commissioner. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Halstead.

On June 17, 1931 he married Francis Gertrude Allen at Halstead. She died October 2, 1985. Survivors: daughters, Shirley Vogt, Hesston and Margaret Herron, Lumberton, Texas; a sister, Esther Mae Jantz, Halstead; 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Smith, Roy Howard Smith, and Orville Smith; sister, Ileen Foserg and a daughter, Patricia Jo Hibbs.

Memorial service was Monday, Janury 10 at First Prebyterian Church, Halstead. Burial in the Halstead Cemetery was private.
