Obituary

Mary Josephine Tate, 73, a Newton resident since moving from Halstead five years ago, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She ws born September 14, 1026 at Calhoun, Kentucky, daughter of Lonnie Edward and Serena Fraser Beals. She retired from Halstead Hospital where where she worked in the dietary department.

She married William Wayne Tate May 31, 1947 at Harrisburg, Illinois. He died November 14, 1993. She attended Halstead Babptist Church.

Survivors: three brothers, Aaron W. Powell, Satanta, Kansas; Lowell Jackson Powell, Emporia and Roy Dale Powell, Kentucky; three sisters, Elsie Phillips, Emporia; Martha Fisher, Florence and Norma Hoag, Emporia. She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Wayne Tate, who died March 3, 1967.

Services will be July 20 at Kaufman Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Burrton, Kansas cemetery.
