Garrow, Harriet Pearl

Harvey County Independent

Harriet "Pearl" (Freeman) Fortune-Garrow, 78, Haysville, Burrton native, died October 29, 2001 in Wichita. She was born January 8, 1923 in Burrton, the daughter of John W. and Leoti May Bullock Freeman.

She attended Hutchinson High School and two years of college. She served as a Seaman 1st Class in the United States Navy during World War II. She worked in Civil Defense for six years in Hays and was an apartment manager for 16 years in Colorado.

She married Raymond Garrow on July 22, 1978 at Las Vegas, Nevada. She was a member of the Haysville United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Hays chapter of the OES #228 and Haysville Chapter OES #494. She served as a foster grandparent at Kelly Elementary, Haysville.

Survivors: two sons, Jerry D. Fortune, Golden, Colorado and Jay A. Fortune, Littleton, Colorado; daughter, June Ann Davis, Crystal River, Florida; brother, Louis Freeman, Odessa, Texas; 6 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two sisters and four brothers and two grandchildren.

Services were held November 3 at the Haysville United Methodist Church with burial following in the Burrton, Kansas Cemetery.
