Giesbrecht, Jacob L.

Harvey County Independent

Jacob L. Giesbecht, 92, North Newton, died Friday, April 27, 2001 at Kidron Bethel Healthcare Center, North Newton. He was born May 26, 1908 at Lanigan, Saskatchewan, Canada, son of Gerhard F. and Elizabeth T. Loewen Giesbrecht. He was an engineer for Santa Fe Railroad. He ws a member of Koerner Heights Church of the Mennonite Brethren, Newton.

On October 20, 1938 he married Helena Adeline Schmidt at Hutchinson. She preceded him in deeath on July 10, 1969.

Survivors: two daughters, Ariona Miller, Shawnee and Sharon Carney, Edmond, Oklahoma; two brothers, Albert L. Geisbrecht and Ernest L. Geisbrecht, both of Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada; seven sisters, Anna Penner, Katherine Toews, Minna Goossen, Mary Mooney and Elizabeth Wiebe, all of Steinbach, Mantoba, Canada; Charlotte Mooney, White Rock, British Columbia, Canada and Josephine Barkman, Landmark, Manitoba, Canada; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Waldon L. Giesbrecht, George L. Giesbrecht and Edwin L. Giesbrecht and sister, Adina Giesbrecht.

Services were May 1 at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead with buarial in the Halstead Cemetery.
