Kohler, John H, M.D.

John H. Kohler, M.D., formerly a cardiiologist at Hertzler Clinic in Halstead, died November 12, 2001 at his home in Newton. Dr. Kohler was born March 16, 1931 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, son of John Henry Sr. and Edna Camilla Hutchinson Kohler.
He married Rebecca Apwisch on August 11, 1981 at Dayton, Ohio. He was a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces. He completed his undergraduate work and medical school at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He served his medical residency at Ohio State University and cardiology fellowship at Indiana University. He practiced cardiiology in Dayton, Ohio, for nearly 12 years before moving to Newton in 1980 and practicing at the clinic in Halstead.
He was a member of the Harvey County Medicaal Society. He enjoyed motorcycles, cooking and tennis.
Survivors: wife of the home; son, Bruce Kohler, Wallington, Ohio; two daughters, Elizabeth Kohler, Benton Harbor, Michigan and Maria Whittenburg, Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Ann Stockman, Laurens,South Carolina and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside service was Saturday, November 17 at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, conducted by Chaplain Louise MacClanahan, chaplain at Newton Medical Center.
