E. Ray Neuway, 74, Harlingen, Texas, former Burrton resident, died August 26, 2001 at Golden Palms Health Center, Harlingen. He was born January 11, 1927 at rural Burrton, son of Edward Lee. and Mary Alice (Roberts) Neuway. He attended Burrton schools.

He served in World War II in the U.S. Army and was in the early occupation force in Japan. After re-enlisting, he was stationed in Belvoir, Virginia.

He married Marjorie Lee Foard June 2, 1947 at Washington, D.C. He came back to Kansas with his family in 1958. He worked for over 30 years for Cessna Hydraulic, Hutchinson, working in supervisioin during his later years at Cessna. He was active in the International Association of Machinists, having held several offices.

After his retirement in 1989 he and his wife moved to the Rio Grand Valley in Texas. He was the first lifetime member of the Emmett Y. Neuway American Legion Post of Burrton and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Donna, Texas.

Survivors, his wife of 54 years; three daughters, Sharon, Thayer, Kansas; Randi Howerton, Miami, Florida and Pamela Seck, Haven; his mother, Mary Hitch, Mt. Hope; three brothers; Keith, Mt. Hope; Robert and Ronald, Burrton; two sisters, Leda Beth Hunter, Wichita and Beth Jean Collins, Jamestown, Kansas; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death ty his father in 1967.

Memorial service was held September 1 at the Burrton Christian Church. Burial to be at a later date in the Burrton Cemetery.
